Climate Change: Coping up with the impacts amidst its denial and assent

Earth’s climate has changed throughout the history. The climate is changing drastically now than at any point in history, mainly because of the anthropogenic activities12. Living and coping the impacts of the most debated issue of climate change is no longer a choice but is essential for the survival. Climate change is growing as a global concern because it affects most sectors and prominently agriculture. As agriculture forms the backbone of the Indian economy, climate change analysis over the agriculture sector helps to tackle the unprecedented challenges posed by changing climate.

Understanding climate change is the key to cope up with it. Climate change induced by both hydrologic and anthropogenic activities alters the Earth’s energy and water budget, near-surface climate, agro hydrological parameters, and many other parameters. Hence modeling agro-hydrological variables such as soil moisture, evapotranspiration, vegetation indices etc in near real-time can be beneficial to model climate changes and foretell extreme events. Agro hydrological variables due to its inherent memory can “remember” extreme climatic events long after the conditions responsible for the anomaly is forgotten by the atmosphere, is a key aspect of land-atmosphere interactions and hence can predict climate changes.

With the recent advancements in remote sensing, the near real-time monitoring of these agro hydrological parameters or testing of hydrological models under all-weather conditions is possible, as measurements in the microwave frequency domain are insensitive to aerosols and clouds. Satyukt Analytics, Pvt Ltd, an expert in Microwave remote sensing is capable of monitoring these parameters in near real-time and can analyze the trend in these variables. The factor of climate change should be analyzed and if found significant should be incorporated in all sectors especially in Hydrological design, policy making etc
