Satyukt’s Macro Sensing Portal- Assess Flooded Area
Floods are the most common and frequent natural disasters worldwide that cause widespread devastation to life, property and infrastructure. Around 47 % of all weather‐related disasters that affected more than 2 billion people worldwide between 1998 to 2017 occurred due to flood. 1
Satyukt’s Macro portal provides better access to the flooded area and the damage caused by flood to the crops. With corporates/Govts as the end-user in mind, we have developed a unique platform through which we provide global information/solutions to business to business (B2B) stakeholders in crop insurance, agriculture, and other sectors. Have a look at the recent Assam flood above represented through our macro sensing portal.
The concoction of flood amidst COVID-19 pandemic acted as salt in the wound for Assam. 2The first wave of flood-hit Assam on 22nd May 2020 due to Amphan cyclone and the second on 20th June 2020 due to heavy rainfall coupled with devastating landslides that have led to the rise in the level of Brahmaputra river above the danger mark.3High magnitude floods in Brahmaputra basin has been a recurring event from early times due to gigantic water and sediment discharge magnitude especially due to monsoon rain as well as various anthropogenic factors like encroachment of floodplains, destruction of wetlands etc.4The flooding situation is likely to increase in future due to climate change.5So re/insurers, policymakers, and stakeholders need to have access to the updated flood inundation maps and the damage caused by the flood to make informed decisions towards preparedness and mitigation measures that can help them reduce the effects of a flood.
Our portal is Satyukt’s contribution towards assessing the damaged area caused by natural calamities such as flood and drought and its impact on croplands through AI/ ML algorithms.
