The concoction of flood amidst COVID-19 pandemic acted as salt in the wound for Assam. ²The first wave of flood-hit Assam on 22nd May 2020 due to Amphan cyclone and the second on 20th June 2020 due to heavy rainfall coupled with devastating landslides that have led to the rise in the level of Brahmaputra river above the danger mark.³High magnitude floods in Brahmaputra basin has been a recurring event from early times due to gigantic water and sediment discharge magnitude especially due to monsoon rain as well as various anthropogenic factors like encroachment of floodplains, destruction of wetlands etc.⁴The flooding situation is likely to increase in future due to climate change.⁵So re/insurers, policymakers, and stakeholders need to have access to the updated flood inundation maps and the damage caused by the flood to make informed decisions towards preparedness and mitigation measures that can help them reduce the effects of a flood.
