South west monsoon leaves India rainfall deficient: IMD
Precipitation/Rainfall apart from being an intrinsic hydrologic component also plays a crucial role in supporting socioeconomic growth and food security. While many parts of the country is experiencing flood-like situation, other parts are reportedly rainfall deficient1. The rainfall in east and northeast India was 24% below normal since June this year2. Rainfall properly monitored and analyzed can help in many ways such as predicting disasters, estimating crop yield etc. Direct monitoring of rainfall has many limitations because of the limited availability of rainfall data. An indirect way of measuring rainfall is by measuring soil moisture. Soil moisture increases with an increase in precipitation and hence monitoring and analyzing the same can be beneficial in identifying the rainfall pattern. Satyukt Analytics Pvt Ltd, expertise in microwave remote sensing is capable of producing soil moisture data at fine scale under all weather conditions.
Other Applications of soil moisture are,
- Optimal irrigation in farms
- Improved flood risk estimation
- Monitor agricultural drought in near real time
- Likely crop Yield
- Irrigation Management
- Improved weather forecast:
- Analyze the impact of an irrigation project
- Estimation of actual evapotranspiration taking place
- Estimation of area getting degraded
